Spending spree
Yesterday, having received my monthly infusion of cash (literally – salaries in China are paid in cash. You walk out with an envelope stuffed with bills), I did what any good American does when money falls into his lap – I spent it.
Not all of it, of course, but I did go a bit overboard. First I made a reservation for two at a nice steakhouse which Jarrett recommended called Moon’s. Then, after work and before dinner, I went into a house of women’s fashion and bought Yoyo a pair of black leather boots.
Now this was breaking a new barrier for me. I had never bought Yoyo any footwear before. (Well, not strictly speaking. I’ve paid for her footwear before, I just haven’t ever picked out a pair without her and surprised her with it). She had told me that she wanted black leather boots from a certain store and indicated the price to me as a way for me to determine the right model. But when I found the ones I assume she wanted, I unwisely went with my own gut and chose a different model. Bad move. Though gracious, she was clearly not pleased with my female foot fashion insticts, and today returned them for the ones she wanted, which are actually cheaper, so I guess it all works out in the end.
